Bed-Stuy workshop · Plate I

Carpentry,
slowly
and properly.

Rudolph builds the kind of work a Brooklyn apartment actually needs: a bed that's also a dresser, a nook that becomes a library, a kitchen that lines up. Quoted exact, built by one person, finished on the day he said.

§ Workbench notes

One carpenter, one truck, Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Rudolph runs Carpentry by Rudolph the way an old craftsman runs a shop. You call, he picks up. He comes to look at the room. He sends a written number, and the number is the number. A client in his reviews has worked with him for over ten years across one NY property.

Most weeks are split between built-in cabinetry for Brooklyn apartments, kitchen installs, and structural work like partitions and pass-throughs. Rescue jobs come in once or twice a month, finishing the build a previous carpenter walked away from.

“The job is done on scope and on budget. He'll even use his personal relationships to save you money as opposed to using them to increase margin.” MAR, Google · ten-plus-year client

Person on the job
01

One person on the job, from quote to cleanup.

No subcontracted crew rotating in and out. Rudolph owns every cut, and the bill matches the scope you agreed to.

02

Realistic timelines, on the day they were promised.

Two-week jobs are quoted as two-week jobs. Three-day jobs finish on day three. Repeat clients have stayed for ten years because the calendar means something.

03

Materials chosen for what they have to do.

Strong drawers get strong material. A bench gets joined, not screwed-and-hoped. Renter-friendly built-ins use fasteners that come back out clean.

04

Estimates that hold, on scope and on budget.

If something changes mid-job, you hear about it before the change happens, not after.

§ Plates I through VI

The kind of work that gets done.

Six recurring shapes that fill the calendar. Each plate is named for the room it usually lives in.

I
Bedrooms

Built-in beds with storage

A small bedroom turns useful when the bed is its own dresser. Solid drawers under the platform, a shelf running along the headboard wall, a footboard that doubles as a bench. Sized to the room, not the catalogue.

II
Apartments

Renter-friendly built-ins

Bookcases, banquettes, and nook units that fit a Brooklyn alcove without touching the walls in a way the landlord will mind. Removable when you move out, or stays put if the lease becomes the lease.

III
Kitchens

Kitchen cabinetry, fitted and finished

Shaker fronts, matched crown, a quiet hood enclosure. Cabinets land plumb, doors line up, kicks meet the tile. Installs cleanly into a renovation already running, or stands on its own as the renovation.

IV
Structure

Walls, partitions, and built-out structure

A wall to split a duplex into two rooms. A pony wall to break a living-room camera angle. A pass-through with a real header. Framing that takes the rest of the build with it instead of fighting it.

V
Outdoor

Decks, walkways, backyard builds

Cedar walkways, low-rise decks, covered backyard bars. Brooklyn-scale outdoor work that survives a winter and looks intentional in May.

VI
Remediation

Rescue work, finishing what someone else left

When the first carpenter walks off the job, the second one inherits the bad framing and the strong opinions of the client. Rudolph does this often. The fix is faster than starting over, and the bill is smaller.

Other ideas welcome. Send a picture by text and Rudolph will say honestly whether it fits the shop.

I can not recommend Rudolph enough. He absolutely saved the day here. We hired another carpenter to do a custom built bed for my son. We lacked the space for a store bought bed and needed storage built in to make the best use of his space. After almost 3 weeks of work, the frame was built, but there were a number of issues including cheap plywood to build the drawers, etc. After telling him they needed to be redone because they were falling apart, he did not show up and we were left hanging high and dry. I found Rudolph on google and he came over quickly to assess the situation. We did not have the budget or time for a complete rebuild, but he came in quickly and managed to undo what he could, bring in better materials, build huge strong drawers, paint and finished the job within 3 days! The drawers needed a slight adjustment and he came back and fixed everything within a few hours, along with mounting my son's TV and an IKEA kallax unit. He is polite, respectful and a very efficient worker. Will absolutely be calling him for future projects.

Rudolph is a top tier contractor. This is the latest project (Wall separating levels in a duplex) but I've been working with him for over 10 years on my NY property. He is professional and gives realistic timelines unlike other contractors. The job is done on scope and on budget. He'll even use his personal relationships to save you money as opposed to using them to increase margin. He loves what he does and it shows when you ask for his opinion and he lights up sharing the latest in decor.

Rudolph did renter friendly built ins for a nook in our apartment. From beginning to end it was a great experience. The work was excellent. Fair and transparent pricing and good communication throughout. If you have a project Rudolph is your guy.

This was hands down the best experience I've had in NYC, period. I've dealt with my share of carpenters who did sloppy and disappointing work, but Rudolph is on a whole other level. Not only is he an incredible craftsman, he's also genuinely kind and brings the best energy to his work. He's fair, incredibly detailed, and his mastery of his craft shows in everything he does. Honestly, he's beyond words. I'm so happy I found him!

Rudolph is the quintessential example of what a professional carpenter should be. He was exact and precise with his quotation as well as the timeliness of the completion of the project. Rudolph allowed us to feel comfortable in trusting him with his vision of excellence based on what he learned about us as homeowners and people. His display of empathy when we explained the importance of legacy with regards to our home, really showed true once we walked into our new oasis.
